In this series of articles, I will be answering commonly asked questions about heaven daily. Check out bellow with beautiful Bible pictures.
QUESTION 26: Are pictures of Angels painted or drawn in arts, like Childlike Cherubim correct?
The majority of paintings and pictures of Angels are human imagination but let's look in scripture to see what the bible says. In the bible, Angels always appear as male, Angels that appear in histories are more of fiction and personal experiences but never in the bible.
The appearance of the angel Daniel saw is the Bible's detailed description of Angel in the book of Daniel 10:5-6, It reads, "Dan 10:5 When I looked up, I saw a man dressed in linen, and he had a belt made of gold from Uphaz around his waist.
Dan 10:6 His body was like beryl. His face looked like lightning. His eyes were like flaming torches. His arms and legs looked like polished bronze. When he spoke, his voice sounded like the roar of a crowd."
let's also look at 2 Chronicle 32:21, "The LORD sent an angel who exterminated all the soldiers, officials, and commanders in the Assyrian king's camp. Humiliated, Sennacherib returned to his own country. When he went into the temple of his god, some of his own sons killed him with a sword."
QUESTION 27: Are all Angels of God the same and doing the same work?
Angels are not the same but they differ, each has his job description. Let's look at some as described in the bible.
- Hosts: In the old testament the word "host" in Hebrew is called "tsaba" and in the New Testament Greek, its "stratia". Both words mean "well-trained army".
- Seraphim: Seraphim simply means "burning ones". These angels are only found in the book of Isaiah. They dwell close to God's presence burning with holy brilliance. Let's look at some description of seraphim in the book of Isaiah Chapter six. They have six wings, two wings cover their faces, in reverence, two wings cover the Seraphims feet in humility, and two wings are for flying. the seraphim also have feet, hands, and voices like humans.
- Cherubim: Cherubs stand close to God's throne, they have more human features than Seraphims. Four faces: The face of a man, the face of a lion, the face of an ox, and the face of an eagle. They have human hands and four wings instead of six. Unlike other angels, the Cherubims never convey messages from God to people. They are never directly called angels. They first appeared in the garden of Eden to guard it with swords after Adams sin. Gen 3:24 After he sent the man out, God placed angels and a flaming sword that turned in all directions east of the Garden of Eden. He placed them there to guard the way to the tree of life.
- Michael: Michael is the only archangel (A powerful angel in charge of other angels) mentioned by name in the bible, His name appeared only in Jude 1:9 When the archangel Michael argued with the devil, they were arguing over the body of Moses. But Michael didn't dare to hand down a judgment against the devil. Instead, Michael said, "May the Lord reprimand you!" Elsewhere in the Old Testament Daniel 10;13 refers to Michael only as "one of the chief princes'. It is also generally believed that Michael would be the one announcing Christ's second coming. The book of Revelation 12:7-8 adds, "Rev 12:7 Then a war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels had to fight a war with the serpent. The serpent and its angels fought. Rev 12:8 But it was not strong enough, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.
- Gabriel: His name means "mighty one of God" Let's read how Gabriel described himself in Luke 1:19 "The angel answered him, "I'm Gabriel! I stand in God's presence. God sent me to tell you this good news. He is a messenger who always brings good news. He answered Daniels's prayer at the end of the Babylonian captivity. After 5000 years, he announced the birth of John the Baptist, and also he is the one who announced the birth of Jesus.
